Tributes are being paid to local event rider turned fundraiser, Claire Lomas.
She was 44. It's believed she died following an accident in Jordan in the Middle East. Melton Times newspaper shared a statement from Claire's family saying they are devastated to lose Claire, from Eye Kettleby, and to ask people to respect their privacy in the coming days to allow them to grieve in peace.
Claire raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity, concentrating on spinal research after she suffered a life changing accident at Osberton Horse Trials in 2007. She walked the London Marathon in a bionic suit to raise funds, taking just over two weeks, as well as challenges around Rutland Water and on local roads on a hand bike. More recently she had taken to flying a microlight. Claire was known to many in Rutland and Stamford from her career in eventing to her challenges and motivational speaking.
