Services are returning to All Saints Church in Oakham today for the first time since January, after the lighting inside was fully replaced at a cost of over £100,000.
Bishop Michael Ipgrave, the Bishop of Lichfield, is a special guest. He was curate at All Saints in the 80s. Reverend Stephen Griffiths, the vicar of Oakham, says the church has undergone a full clean too, and encourages everyone to come and see the transformation.
"We've got these huge arches throughout the nave of the church. The view of them is a bit impeded by those chandeliers, and now they've all gone, we're really able to enjoy the height of these pillars and arches, and the rest of the lighting scheme just picks out beautiful parts of the church in a very discreet way, and I've already spoken to a few people coming in who say, well where are the lights? Which I think is a real mark of the success of the project."
