The campaign to protect Rutland's ceremonial county status as upcoming local government reorganization threatens its survival is gathering pace.
Pubs in North and South Luffenham, The Vaults in Uppingham, as well as the Old White Hart at Lyddington and the George and Dragon in Seaton are hosting the Save Rutland petition started by the Rutland Blogger Charlie Pallett with support from Rutland and Stamford's MP Alicia Kearns issues this plea to the government, local councils and everyone involved in plans to create new larger authorities.
"The recognition of Rutland must be preserved at all costs. I ask on behalf of Rutland that you listen to residents and make this a truly representative decision for our county. I ask that councils back my petition to protect our ceremonial status as a county because we are Rutlanders and we should be recognised as such in law and by our King. In negotiations with government and other councils we must be absolute. The government must make provisions to protect our ceremonial status."
