Rutland County Council is revisiting its Local Plan on future development. This follows the decision to reject nearly £30 million of national Housing Infrastructure Funding (HIF) linked to Garden Community proposals for St George’s Barracks.
The Local Plan is the development blueprint for Rutland for the next decade. Central to the existing Local Plan is the building of more than 2,000 houses on the old airfield at North Luffenham.
The decision to reject the offer of the HIF grant was taken at a Special Full Council Meeting of Rutland County Council on 22 March. Council leader Oliver Hemsley says there are two options now – to rewrite the Local Plan or to find some other form of funding to allow the whole St George’s development to still go ahead. The Council hopes that a further report with recommendations can be brought back for Councillors to consider in May.
