Rutland County Council's Leader says she's stepping down
to spend more time with their growing family, although she will remain as a county councillor for the Normanton ward. Gale Waller says leading the council has been a tremendous honour and she's immensely proud of everything that's been achieved despite the significant challenges facing the small but exceptional rural county of Rutland. She says their submission for local government reorganisation is complete and also having received written assurance from the Government over the county status, it's time for her to spend more time with her family, having recently become a grandmother. She also praised the council's strong financial position, both in future investment and minimising a rise in council tax. Deputy Leader Andrew Johnson is in charge until a meeting of the full council next Thursday night.
