The government is proposing to combine district councils and smaller unitary authorities (such as Rutland) into larger unitary authorities. Rutland County Council's Leader gives her views and shares her knowledge with Rutland & Stamford Sound ahead of a special Council meeting tomorrow night.
The leader of Rutland County Council fears that if we don’t work with our neighbours in local government reorganisation, we’ll have the decision made for us. Leicestershire County Council is proposing one unitary authority for an enlarged city, and another for the county, which would include Rutland. Both the Leader of Rutland County Council and also Rutlanders who attended MP Alicia Kearns’ meetings at Victoria Hall agree dividing the county up into two smaller authorities would be better.
