Alicia Kearns, the MP for Rutland and Melton, has voiced her concern at proposed constituency boundary changes, and urges constituents to have their say.
Rutland and Melton’s MP says that a divorce from Leicestershire in the proposed Boundary Commission changes would divide communities. If approved, Rutland would rejoin Stamford with the Deepings, Melton would partner Syston and the Harborough villages currently with Rutland would become part of the area served by Harborough’s MP.
Rutland and Stamford was previously served by a single MP for 65 years, from 1918 until 1983 – when the boundaries were then redrawn to join Rutland with Melton. Stamford was then similarly joined with Grantham and Bourne.
Alicia Kearns, the MP for Rutland and Melton, says that any changes must protect and enhance services and representation of her constituency, however, she does not believe that they do this. Alicia is urging people to complete her online survey by Friday 30th July and to contact the Boundary Commission by Monday 02nd August to share their views.
