The peace light has arrived in Stamford from Bethlehem.
Thanks to the International Scouting Guide movement, it has made its way from Austria to Lincolnshire and today will travel with the Scouts to the Deepings and with the Methodist Church to Ketton, Oakham and Uppingham. It's the third year Scouts and Guides have received it at Barn Hill. Minister Reverend Andrew Hollins, who's leading three services in Rutland today, hopes the symbolism will extend further thanks to those seeing it locally and around the world.
‘it's good to be able to just, you know, light a flame this afternoon for that really, for peace and unity and all that that symbolises and just to realise really in some ways it's a bit hackneyed, but a tiny flame of light can actually light up a darkened room and tiny actions, tiny things done like sharing the peace light here in Stamford. Who knows what the impact of that might be. Who knows where the radiance of that light might spread. Conversations that hopefully will happen as a result of people being here to share in this’.
