Yesterday's clear and cold weather led to fast times and a new record for the 31st Stamford Striders Valentine's 30k.
Jonathan Escalante-Phillips from Cambridge set a new fastest time of 1 hour 36 minutes 27 seconds, over a minute faster than previous course record holder Aaron Scott from Stamford. Over 600 runners took part in the annual 18 mile run. Jonathan, who also won last year's Great Eastern Half Marathon in Peterborough, and will be running his first ever marathon in London this April says he put a lot of planning into his victory in Stamford. Yeah, it was a real confidence booster today.
"I had a good run at the Great Eastern and I had a bit of a disappointing run actually over in Seville where I was hoping to pick up from a good run in the Great Eastern and didn't. So it was really nice to have a really good solid run today. They say those bad runs actually give you more time for reflection and improvement. And so I spent a bit of time planning for today, planning my fuelling and I think that all came together, which is really nice. Slightly overcooked it on the last big hill at 25k, but managed to hold it together just about."
