Oakham in Bloom's iconic boat at the Stamford Road roundabout will be rejuvenated today with the arrival of a replacement.
The new vessel has been donated by Anglian Water and has been specially refurbished by apprentices at Coulam Boats based at Market Deeping. The boat will be lifted into position today in front of a newly built screen of vertical railway sleepers.
Chair of Oakham in Bloom, Sheila Cunningham says it's a great day, but there's more exciting work to be done.
"I'm really excited that it is coming and that Coulam Boats are delivering it for us after they've worked on it and everything. So it's a big moment. It's been months waiting for it. Everybody on the committee and other volunteers at Oakham in Bloom have been working really hard. Had a landscaper take out the bamboo, the vertical sleepers have been put in, and now the boat's going to be here soon. And then in the next few weeks we'll be planting it up so people can look out and see us doing that, and if anyone wants to join us as volunteers, this might be a moment to come along and join us."
