Rutland's MP, Alicia Kearns, has set out six tests that she feels best represent the views of people of England's smallest mainland county as local government reorganisation sees Rutland likely to merge with neighbouring authorities.
These include protecting the ceremonial status of the county, at least two smaller unitary authorities for Leicestershire if Rutland County Council joins, a reduction in council tax to match a new council area, a fair share of government funding, smaller council wards so democracy can remain closer to communities, and Rutland in the name of the new council area.
Rutland County Council is being asked to submit initial proposals by the 21st of March.
