Today is International Women's Day with a theme of rights, equality and empowerment.
The station commander of RAF Wittering says she has a lot to thank the force for: "You know, I left school with zero qualifications, made redundant three times before I was 17 and a half, and we saw an advert and I ended up doing a GCSE English at night class and then joining the military as was then Women's Royal Air Force and then I've managed to gain qualifications through the Air Force over my time and then took a commission and I haven't looked back and next year I've been in the air force 35 years and it feels like 35 minutes it really does. I've had some amazing tours, I've got qualifications that I didn't know I would ever get, I've got an MA and I've been to some amazing places. And I'm chairperson of the RAF snowboarding and I've learned to snowboard, been on loads of snowboarding trips, so what's not to love?"
Wing Commander Nikki Duncan is part of a breakfast discussion at the William Cecil in Stamford this morning, which is chaired by Baroness Tanny Gray Thompson and organised by the Rotary Club of Stamford St Martins.
