Rutland will not be fast-tracked into local government reorganisation.
Yesterday, Whitehall refused requests to postpone the May council elections for Leicestershire and Lincolnshire, which if granted would have meant initial proposals needed to be submitted in weeks. Leicestershire has announced it wants to include Rutland in a new combined unitary authority.
The leader of Rutland County Council, Gale Waller, believes there's no way out of the process and discussions are continuing over how best to work with neighbouring authorities in Leicestershire with the delivery of high-quality and sustainable public services at the forefront. She adds that borders work best when they reflect how people live their lives and that there isn't a predetermined path to follow.
