Exton and Greetham Primary School says celebrating differences with all children has helped them win the Nurture Schools Award.
Their links with the local community were also highlighted.
They're one of several schools locally that have been praised for their pastoral care. Head Teacher Megan Davis says several schools locally have received the award, and one thing they do is celebrate difference through including everyone.
"We found about seven, eight years ago, we were aware that some children would be told because of their particular need, that they might need a coloured overlay, or they might need different colour paper, or they might need what some people would call a fidget but in our school, we call a concentration aid or they might need a distraction board, or they might need noise cancelling headphones. And we found that children who were told they needed something, didn't want to use it because they don't like being different. So we flipped it on its head as a school and went we're gonna give it to everybody. So in our classrooms, everybody has access to noise cancelling headphones. Everybody has access to fidgets. We have bands on chairs for children who need to be moving when they're writing. We have different sorts of seating. Some of our children sit on stools. But those things are available for everyone. You don't have to have a special need. It's about what you need to help you learn."
