Uppingham Dementia Support Club is urging people with the condition and their carers to seek help sooner.
The Rainbow Care Group meet at Uppingham Town Cricket Club on Mondays and say their low numbers suggest there are many more people in the community they could be helping. Jenny Friend from the organisation says they would love to keep running the club on a Monday and want to reach out to even more people.
‘We launched the club a while ago but we've been really surprised that we've not had more members that even knew we existed, to be honest. So today is about raising awareness and hopefully reaching out to anybody in our community that might be a carer. They may not at the moment consider themselves a carer, but what we want to do is to allow people to live safe and well at home for much longer and for the carers to feel supported because it's so important for respite. Often when people are supporting somebody living with dementia or memory loss, it can be all consuming’.
