Villagers in Collyweston can now confirm what they believe to be the remains of a 15th century royal palace truly is that, thanks to technology used in a recent archaeological dig.
The palace was visited by Henry VII and Henry VIII and belonged to Lady Margaret Beaufort. Chairman of the Collyweston Historical and Preservation Society, Chris Close, says to have their findings verified is a huge step forward.
"Ground penetrating radar is what we've used, so basically that's revealed two major structures for us to target and we targeted them at the weekend before last, and it's been from that that we've had our major breakthrough. It means basically that what we've been able to now verify is that the walls in situ now come with dating evidence, so it is now undeniable that we have the Palace of Collyweston."
