Rising costs, the difficulties of being competitive on-line against big business and sales not returning to pre-pandemic levels are the reasons why Colemans have taken the decision to close most of their shops, including Stamford and Oakham. A closing down sale is being held to shift most of the stock. Only the two stores in Oundle will remain.
The family owned stationery business started in 1969 in Northamptonshire. Stamford opened under the Colemans banner 35 years ago, with a separate arts shop opening in 2000, and the Oakham shop started in 2009.
Managing Director Joey Coleman today Stamford that it has been the toughest of decisions to make: “We have had such a loyal following and our staff have been amazing. Sadly, the world has changed which means for independent retailers it is very, very hard, to keep going, even relatively strong ones as we have been.”
