The race is on to keep Peterborough Cathedral's doors open as it faces annual running costs of over £2m.
The Cathedral in Crisis Appeal, which is for £300,000 by the end of March, is now over a third of the way there. If enough money is raised, the cathedral, which also serves Rutland, will stay open seven days a week.
Leader of Peterborough City Council, Dennis Jones, says they'll do what they can to support them.
"All I can say is I've spoken with our chief executive and we're going to see what we can do. I'm sure we can do something, not as much as we like because of our own financial woes, but this is just such a wonderful, iconic building that serves the whole of the city and the region, and we have something that is worth treasuring and worth saving as a result."
