Three of Stamford's engineering giants have been honoured as a blue plaque was unveiled at the site of their 1913 showroom.
Edward Blackstone, Frank and Tod Carter have been named after their families applied to Stamford Civic Society for recognition. The plaque is on Broad Street on what's now Bog Dog Running. As well as being a large employer for the town, Blackstones and the Carter brothers revolutionised diesel engines, introducing mechanical spring injection in 1924, which extended the life of the machines to the extent that some of the engines are still in use around the world today. Last night, family, friends and supporters gathered for the unveiling and a reception at Browns Hospital opposite were here some of those involved 9:30 this morning on Rutland and Stamford Sound.
