Two voluntary organisations are expecting a busy weekend as more revellers meet up in Stamford in the run up to Christmas.
The Pride of Stamford litter pickers are forecasting a bigger clean up than usual and the Stamford Street Pastors will be out until the early hours making sure everyone gets home safely. Mike Freeman Is part of Stamford Street Pastors and also works nationally with them. He says they become a key part of keeping the streets safe at night.
‘Yes, I'm quite surprised how licking a lolly at 2:00 in the morning actually defuses a violent situation. I was very sceptical until I saw it in practise and we can engage with the youngsters, and the not so young people, when there's just the early stages that there might be a little bit of a violent situation erupting. We don't step in and part them, but we just get alongside them and chat to them and often that defuses what could be a violent situation evolving’.
